Intro to The Encounter
Techniques
The 180- degree rule allows the audience to relate to the unseen movement happening around the immediate subject it is important during dialogue between two characters or more.Match on action avoids any disruption as the scene continues to flow, the perspective on the camera changes, it is a simple effective technique to give the audience a better visual of the detail of mise-en-scene.
How I Used The Techniques
In the intro to the encounter I used the 180 degree rule to make sure that the audience did not get confused when two of the characters were talking ( The drug dealer and the drug lord). When the two characters were talking I made sure that the 180 degree rule was used so it did not look like both of these characters were talking and looking in the same direction. We used the rule of thirds when both of the characters were talking as it allows the audience to pay more attention the rule of thirds also allows the subject to remain in the middle, I did break the rule of thirds when the bodyguard grabbed the drug dealer as this made the bodyguard look a lot taller and made him seem more intimidating. I used match on action from the start of the scene when the drug dealer was opening the door, i used this so that the audience could gain more detail of the location and what the drug dealer was wearing. I also used match on action when the drug dealer pulled out the chair, when the drug lord was hitting down on the drugs, when the bodyguard grabbed the drug dealer and when the bodyguard was kicking the drug dealer, i used this not only to gain more detail but it added more excitement to the scene.Scenario
The scene starts of with a drug dealer who is meant to be delivering drugs to a drug lord, the drug dealer delivers the package and the drug dealers feels that the drugs are not good so he gets angry and then the bodyguard beats up the drug dealer. In my planning i used the scenario to create my storyboard it also helped me to decide the
mise-en-scene and the location that it was going to be filmed in. First of all the props used such as the knife and the drugs were inspired by the theme of the scene and also the clothing, as the drug dealer was wearing casual clothing, the bodyguard was wearing clothing that made him seem intimidating and the drug lord was wearing smarter clothing.
Evaluation
The challenges that I faced during production are that it was really hard to get everyone who was involved to be in the same place at the same time as some people had things to do. Also it was also hard to get everyone to focus as we took quite a long time to film and it should have been a lot easier. Also if i was to film this again i would make sure there was more continuity as we seemed to mess up in a lot of the shots and i would also add more fill in shots to make the scene flow a bit better, i would also improve the lighting in some of the shots as some were quite dark. What I found quite good about the filming team is that it was quite fun to work with them and there were no arguments and everyone was quite easy going. I also found that we could film in only a few sessions which was good.
Overall the production was quite good as the challenges that we faced were not too bad and did not really effect the quality of the filming too much.
