The Intro To The Encounter

Intro to The Encounter

Techniques

The 180- degree rule allows the audience to relate to the unseen movement happening around the immediate subject it is important during dialogue between two characters or more.
Match on action avoids any disruption as the scene continues to flow, the perspective on the camera changes, it is a simple effective technique to give the audience a better visual of the detail of mise-en-scene.

How I Used The Techniques

In the intro to the encounter I used the 180 degree rule to make sure that the audience did not get confused when two of the characters were talking ( The drug dealer and the drug lord). When the two characters were talking I made sure that the 180 degree rule was used so it did not look like both of these characters were talking and looking in the same direction. We used the rule of thirds when both of the characters were talking as it allows the audience to pay more attention the rule of thirds also allows the subject to remain in the middle, I did break the rule of thirds when the bodyguard grabbed the drug dealer as this made the bodyguard look a lot taller and made him seem more intimidating. I used match on action from the start of the scene when the drug dealer was opening the door, i used this so that the audience could gain more detail of the location and what the drug dealer was wearing. I also used match on action when the drug dealer pulled out the chair, when the drug lord was hitting down on the drugs, when the bodyguard grabbed the drug dealer and when the bodyguard was kicking the drug dealer, i used this not only to gain more detail but it added more excitement to the scene.

Scenario

The scene starts of with a drug dealer who is meant to be delivering drugs to a drug lord, the drug dealer delivers the package and the drug dealers feels that the drugs are not good so he gets angry and then the bodyguard beats up the drug dealer.
In my planning i used the scenario to create my storyboard it also helped me to decide the
mise-en-scene and the location that it was going to be filmed in. First of all the props used such as the knife and the drugs were inspired by the theme of the scene and also the clothing, as the drug dealer was wearing casual clothing, the bodyguard was wearing clothing that made him seem intimidating and the drug lord was wearing smarter clothing.

Evaluation

The challenges that I faced during production are that it was really hard to get everyone who was involved to be in the same place at the same time as some people had things to do. Also it was also hard to get everyone to focus as we took quite a long time to film and it should have been a lot easier. Also if i was to film this again i would make sure there was more continuity as we seemed to mess up in a lot of the shots and i would also add more fill in shots to make the scene flow a bit better, i would also improve the lighting in some of the shots as some were quite dark.

What I found quite good about the filming team is that it was quite fun to work with them and there were no arguments and everyone was quite easy going. I also found that we could film in only a few sessions which was good.

Overall the production was quite good as the challenges that we faced were not too bad and did not really effect the quality of the filming too much.

My Summer

My summer

Throughout my summer there were a lot of media texts such as movies, television programmes and also a lot of music. Although most of the time I enjoyed the media texts I found a few media texts which seemed to stand out for me personally.

The first media text that I’m going to talk about is the movie ‘The Maze Runner’ even though I have previously watched it I decided to watch it again to gain a better understanding of the movie, I particularly enjoy the movie because of the strange twist and the challenges that the characters face throughout the movie, throughout the movie I believe the director Wes Ball did a really good job of creating scenes that really left the audience at the edge of their seats. I also think that the various use of shots in the movie, such as match on action cuts as it allows an action packed scenes to flow much smoother and it allows the audience to gain a bigger variety of detail used in that specific scene when they are running through the maze as they are running from monster/robots this signifies that it is a dystopian future.
Other media texts also stood out to me such as music throughout my summer i listened to a lot of music but the music i enjoyed listening to this summer is most of Drakes album as most of the songs has summer vibes i also enjoyed the album as every song is sampled from another artist, mainly old songs even though the original songs were not appealing to me Drakes album seemed to work with the sampled instrumentals.I also enjoyed listening to DJ Khaled's album as it featured a lot of famous artists such a Kodak Black.
As i was on holiday throughout my summer i listened to a various amount of Mauritian music i really liked it because it gave me an idea of what my parents listened to as children, not only did it allow me to do that but it allowed me to engage with my culture and realise that people should keep their ears open to all types of music because you might like it.The music was really upbeat and was it was really fun to watch the different kind of dances that could

Another media text i have enjoyed is the series on Netflix called 'The Get Down' i enjoyed it as i can relate to it as the people are around my age i found it relatable as they are just kids trying to have fun. I also found it enjoyable to watch as the themes denoted were very interesting such as family life, music culture and problematic areas in America in the 1980's. This is also a very good series as it features Shameik Moore who also plays in Dope and he is one of my favourite actors. It also featured ASAP Rocky who is a very well respected artist to me.
